First, I'd like to draw attention to what the project account already said about this:
GrapheneOS There's no basis for the claim.
Now, to address some of the things you've said...
GeorgeSoros it depends on the specific model and features
I noticed none of the devices you listed are Pixel 9s, not even iPhones, which have about the same kind of functionality as the Pixel 9 might have based on rumors. The devices you listed are for use in remote areas, like that's the whole point of those phones. As far as I can tell, those devices are made to communicate with the company's satellite network.
It just doesn't make sense to use information about what are very clearly different kinds of devices and then draw conclusions.
GeorgeSoros Trouble is GOS will not confirm if [turning off airplane mode will turn off satellite connectivity is] the case.
I have no idea why you would think that that wouldn't be the case? It seems obvious. What does airplane mode do and why? Based on the rumors I've read, satellite connectivity uses the same modem as other cellular communications. So, yes, airplane mode should disable that. I'd imagine not including satellite connectivity would break many countries' regulations for air travel, so I think Google won't do that even if rumors are wrong or if I read wrong.
GeorgeSoros unfortunately the current team wants to take the easy road of denial & delete instead of the hard work of adaptive fortifying. They think they debunked something they don't even have their hands on yet.
GeorgeSoros No, you missed the point. They're already saying they don't want to do anything. This is what happens when people don't get paid, they ignore whistleblower TTPs and look for the easiest way out.
Again, the phones haven't been released. Based on what is known about the upcoming feature, there's nothing that needs to be done.
Look at what the project has accomplished already in 2024. The developers and leadership don't hide from difficult challenges. They are hard at work improving the privacy and security of their OS, what makes you think that if there were a valid concern that they'd just hide from it?
You are blowing things out of proportion. You don't seem to be reading or taking into consideration anything that anyone else has said to you that doesn't support your argument. GrapheneOS is a serious project and doesn't do stuff for privacy theater. I, along with the rest of the moderation team, don't want our community spaces to be overrun by wild speculation.
I had suggested starting a new thread because I had hoped that there would be fruitful discussion. That isn't happening so I'm just going to remove some of the comments here and keep the thread locked. Also, it should go without saying that community members who routinely spread FUD or make wild, unfounded claims can be suspended or banned.
