Phone Call Screen Turning Black

Hello everyone,

As you know when you are on a phone call, if the top of the screen is touched, the screen turns black.

Whenever I am on a signal call, audio or video, and I try to press a notification that shows up on the top of my screen, my screen goes black and I have to wait to use it again, only to try to press the notification again for my screen to go black again. Its a vicious cycle and it drives me absolutely mad, please tell me there's a way to stop this. I can't do it anymore. PLEASE

freelancer I rarely talk on my phone, so I've never experienced this.

It sounds like you're somehow triggering the proximity sensor. What happens if you tap the side of the notification and not the middle? Does the screen still turn off if you are careful to touch the notification with one finger?

I am not sure whether this will work or not, but you can try disabling the sensors permission for Signal to see if that helps, but keep in mind that that might affect the camera when taking pictures from signal (maybe pictures won't automatically display in landscape or portrait modes).

other8026 no I just checked. Whether I press the middle or the side it goes black. I turned sensors off for both signal and phone app, and even if I don't rotate my phone to press the notification or even just press high enough on my screen, I lay it flat on a table, it still goes black. I am very careful with this but I think it's the feature I had on my old huawei where it thinks you're pressing the phone to your ear, so the screen goes black, but they had a way to shut it off in settings. Is there any more help on this?

I had this problem on a work phone (some kind of Samsung). It was the screen protector (installed by me). Over time it was very dirty/damaged and it was the reason why my screen kept turning off during a call.

Make sure that if you have a screen protector:

It's not dirty or have grease from fingers/skin
It's not damaged
It doesn't have air bubbles underneath it
Maybe try to take it off or replace with different model protector

If you do not have a screen protector, then I don't know why your Hall effect sensor is reacting the way it does. Maybe do what other8026 auggested, turn off sensors permission.

Panda-na Crazy that you say that since I have a small air bubble on the top right side of the screen. I will fix that and let you know asap.

Panda-na Reset my phone, added new screen protecor, no sensor permissions for phone or Signal, still the same issue
