But one thing. You write that there will be a warning when launching a 32-bit app. But I would think that if people use a 32-bit app, that means that they have made a conscious choice and sideloaded that app for a specific usecase. Most probably that app is not in daily use.
In almost every case people are accidentally using 32-bit-only builds of apps because they obtained the apps from a mirror or third party repository and ended up with a 32-bit-only build instead of the 64-bit-only build. We want to quickly phase out support for these apps so warning at each launch is the best approach. Warning less frequently would be reasonable if we didn't plan to remove support for 32-bit-only apps in the near future. No one can use these on 7th/8th generation Pixels since support for them was disabled upstream on 7th gen Pixels from launch and 8th gen Pixels do not support 32-bit at a hardware level.
Maybe apps like these are specific apps for themes or widgets or similar. Those apps wil not be launched by the user, they will run 24/7. Maybe warning at OS startup?
They're either apps with 64-bit builds available or in rare cases games which haven't been developed in before around 2018. The deprecation of 32-bit-only apps started in 2017.
Just a few thoughts 😊 I don't think this will impact me at all, so I'm happy either way. But those that are crazy about theme-ing and customization will probably not like this change (especially if they don't get a warning 😅).
It's not related to themes/customization. It's highly unlikely there are any apps relevant to that impacted by this. They'll either be apps where people are accidentally using 32-bit-only builds where 64-bit support is available or rare cases like abandoned games. People on 7th/8th gen Pixels already don't have 32-bit-only app support since that's standard on new Android devices, and we've heard nearly zero complaints about it.
Running ancient apps with no security updates is generally not a good idea particularly since most require network access. Most of the old games required online services which aren't available any more so the examples of these apps which are still relevant are few.
