Hi all,
I have a brand new pixel 8 and installed Graphene OS yesterday.
I am unable to to get my eSim working.
In australia there is a telco called Telstra and I am attempting to install the eSim profile through the My Telstra app as this is the only way to do it with this telco, they do not have QR support as far as I can tell.
The app uses a browser for the authentication process and to download the eSim profile. I tried using vanadium as the default and that didn't work, when I attempted the last step - downloading the esim profile - it failed.
I thought perhaps there was some funky hardened setting in vanadium that was preventing the profile from downloading so I installed chrome from aurora and set it as the default browser with the assumption of max compatibility and even tested downloading an image to make sure there was no storage permissions blocking downloads. This didn't work either.
This is what else I have done so far:
- Made sure the os is up to date
- I have the latest release of the My Telstra app from aurora store
- I have installed google play services through the graphene app store with the default configuration to allow notifications and that appears to be working (tested by being able to receive support notifications through the telstra app) I only did this in case the telstra app required Play services for some reason. I tried without play services initially and the eSim process through the app did not work
- I read the graphene faq and made sure that eSim support is turned on in settings > network and internet > esim support
- I dialed ##4636## and made sure that DSDS is enabled (it is) as per the faq
- Contacted Telstra but Telstra support is useless. They're offshore and just copy and paste generic instructions
Everything appears to be working on Telstra's end as when I attempt to transfer the eSim from my iPhone to the pixel the order goes through on their system because I lose cell service on the iPhone and I get an email saying the transfer is complete.
The process appears to be failing at the last stage which is to download the eSim profile. It's here that I am returned from the browser to the Telstra app with an error message.
I am able to then use the telstra app on the iPhone to reinstall the eSim there without any issues.
Has anyone here been able to install an esim profile through the Telstra app on graphene?
I can just go to a Telstra store and get a physical Sim but eSim is more convenient and perhaps this might help some fellow aussies looking to swich to graphene too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. I have not tried any of the support channels through telegram etc yet, so if that's a better place than here please let me know. I posted here first so it'd be easier for people in my situation to find in the future
