Issue with push notification with Canadian banking apps

Here is a question for users using Canadian banking apps. Certain banking apps has the option to register your device for push notification. Have you had any luck registering your device? I tried with 2 banking apps and it keeps on giving me an error message (6086).

If you are referring to Threshold Alerts then yes I have successfully applied them. Gives me the choice for text or email notifications and it works fine.

brookie229 can you please tell me how you got it working? I tried setting up "Get push verification codes to your device" and I keep on getting "Sorry, we can't register this device. Sign on with a different device and try again".

They meant push notifications for 2fa.

Nothing special just toggled on the App Notifications within Settings. Not sure which bank app you are having trouble with but TD doesn't have much for notifications - just the Threshold Alerts afaik. ScotiaBank is much better with much greater fine tuning on all accounts etc. I just follow the directions and toggle my preferences.

Obviously you must make sure that notifications are enabled on the app as well as permissions set for notifications etc. Go to your phone settings/Apps/tap on your bank app(s) and allow ALL permissions. Make sure "Exploit protection compatibility mode" is toggled ON as well.

brookie229 I have all 3 (CIBC, Scotia and TD). I am having issues with CIBC and no problem at all with TD and Scotia.

brookie229 Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated! I tried your suggestion, unfortunately didn't work. I have been researching online and seems like the issue is from CIBC's side as other pixel users have reported the same issue - which sucks! Oh well...

I've been having the same issue with RBC and Simplii, I can't seem to register my Pixel 7a to get the push notifications. It's so damn frustrating lol. Did you resolve your issue? @machmoody

Flobberclack Unfortunately no. I called CIBC and spoke to their support team. They said to wait for a few days and call back if that doesn't work, just need to find some time to call them back.

Flobberclack Finally an update on this. So looks like some banking app 2fa push notification will not work on GrapheneOS due to their method of integration. It was getting really annoying, so I ended up switching back to the stock OS and it worked right away.

I recently switched from a Google Pixel 6a to a Pixel 9a, both running GrapheneOS. I was able to register my Pixel 6a device with both the CIBC & Simplii Financial apps (essentially the same app) but cannot register my Pixel 9a with either app, receiving a "Sorry, we can't register this device. Sign on with a different device and try again. (6086)" error. I have tried every solution I have found online and everything I can think of to resolve this issue. I assume others are still experiencing the same issue so I'm hoping to breathe live back into this thread.

Quick follow-up. Since posting my previous message I have been able to register my Pixel 9a with the CIBC app but not yet with the Simplii Financial app. I have no explanation.
