  • Using RCS with Google Messages on GrapheneOS

Play services didn't have contact permissions, wonder if that is the cause? I just gave it that permission and cleared cache, we'll see if it helps. Messages is up-to-date.

I don't think that's it since you can give messages That permission, And still have RCS... What happens on the iOS side?

This might be a weird one, but try removing yourself from the original RCS chat and then archive or delete all the other group chats and have your iOS friend add you back on their end. Also check to make sure that RCS is operational in messages.

It's a work group. All these would know is it's a text message. None of them even know what RCS is.

Ah I see... It's Possible it's a Google messages problem if RCS gets bumped down to MMS , or One of your iPhone friends does not have RCS enabled or theirs is dropping out

Wouldn't it appear as MMS on android since IOS does not have encryption as part of their RCS implementation ?

I think it would still appear as an RCS message. Just it wouldn't have the encryption key inside of the chat settings.

As soon as someone I know gets IOS 18 I can confirm. Has not dropped here yet, family members just got 17.7

They need to manually choose iOS 18. It does work with iOS, it is correct that it doesn't show the lock for encryption

I also experienced issues getting RCS to work on my Google Pixel 8 Pro. I ended up having to completely reinstall Google Messages. Before doing so, I backed up my messages using this tool here. After reinstalling, RCS was enabled within about 10 seconds.

Etm571 i had trouble getting RCS working so i will give this a shot. did your pictures remain saved as well?

Etm571 i did this and now messages says my device isnt eligible for RCS :( odd but i'll survive for now

Do you guys know if DU (UAE) works with GrapheneOS and RCS?

I've tried to enable it in all the possible ways (but not using ADB yet as I am not very practice on how ADB works) but no success so far.

I've Google Sandboxed in a secondary profile, have installed Carrier Services, enabled all permissions for the Google Messages app, set the phone number and everything I could read on this mega thread, but no luck so far.

So if somebody has the same carrier that I have (DU) and successfully set the RCS please let me know how to do it, thanks in advance!

I could probably get rid of WhatsApp if this RCS thing eventually works properly.

i have been trying to get this to work for about a year now & i have tried everything but this. This did the trick for me (along with installing the google app and assigning permissions mentioned in this thread)

yall are the best man. thank you
