Yahoo 2-step verification

Hi,

I purchased a Pixel 7a to install GrapheneOS to have a play around, with the view to making this my daily driver.

Unfortunately, for most of my days I been using Yahoo for my main email & also as my business email account. So not in a position to move away from Yahoo at this time.

The 2-step verification (i use Yubikey) still requires that you have two verified sources of recovery such as email, mobile number or app.

I plan to eventually change my contact number and would rather not have to give them my new contact.

Any way round this other than paying for a burner phone just for verification purposes?

Why not make a free Proton or Tuta email as the recovery? And if you want to hide use of those email services, you can use an alias from Addy.io or SimpleLogin to forward to Proton/Tuta (as long as Yahoo accepts aliases).

I have my old gmail, scrape my even older yahoo account (IIRC yahoo paywalled regular email forwarding) and then gmail forwards to an alias which then forwards to a newer more privacy focused email. Its a bit convuluted but works well once its setup.

But it looks like require a 2nd form of backup ie mobile or app to be verified as well.

Just get another sim. Depends on offers available at the time, we can get them for 1p per month, so hopefully you have something similar.
If you would rather keep it separate, then cheap 2nd hand Androids are easy to come by.
Or perhaps get a VoIP number that you can "carry" on your normal phone

Unfortunately cheapest sim I aware of is £6/7 per month. An extra expense for nothing.
But not sure another way around it.

But, you not need to login from time to time to keep Gmail account active for this in longer term?

probably but, it takes 2 years for a gmail account to go inactive and risk being deleted. All you would need to do is login using a vpn at like a coffee shop once every other year.

Even if your gmail and yahoo account are tied to your identity, they are still seperated from your new account by the alias they forward to.
