de0u Great! That means the hardware is most likely plausibly ok, and also means that you have access to various potential recovery options.
Okay, this is mostly awesome to hear. Thank you for helping me get to this place!
de0u Can you say more about what happened before the device started looping? As far as you know, when the battery ran out was the device in the process of doing a system update?
Simply the battery ran out! I had woke up in the morning but forgotten to charge the phone overnight, I was in the middle of texting someone and it had died. Nothing out of the blue I don't think. That's part of why this had been so frustrating for me. This is why I suspect its an issue with the software because a phone dying should typically be a non-issue I'd say. I don't believe it had been doing a system update- does GrapheneOS ever do background system updates? I had never consented to one so as far as I know none was happening.
de0u If you are lucky, the system partition is corrupt but the data partition is ok. If that is the case, there is a fair chance that sideloading an OTA image will put you back in business. If that does not work then the reverse is fairly likely, i.e., the system partition is ok but the data partition is corrupt. If that turns out to be the case then a "factory reset" (which dumps the data partition) may be necessary.
Okay! I am not too knowledgeable about this kind of stuff and so I might need some assistance or direction as to how to do such things. I am not sure quite what "sideloading and OTA image" is and how I would do that, especially with the phone in this state. I do know what a factory reset is but I am also not sure how to do that with the phone in this state. If you could speak to these or share any resources that do that would be incredible!
Thank you for all of this help!
