Interpreting installation instructions (re udev)

While waiting for my new phone to arrive I am working through the installation instructions. My laptop is running manjaro, which I hope is close enough to ArchLinux to be OK, and I'm trying to follow the command line installation instructions. Everything is fine till this:

Connect the device to the computer. On Linux, you'll need to do this again if you didn't have the udev rules set up when you connected it.

This is the first time udev rules have been mentioned, and the first time the device has been connected to the computer. What needs to be done about udev rules, and when?

DeletedUser29 Thank you! So just the act of installing android-udev is enough to set up the rules for the device? (as you can probably see I don't actually know how the udev manager works)

navtis Never used the CLI install guide as I try to stay as far away from command lines as I humanly can. But yes, I believe that is the process to set up the needed rules. The GrapheneOS install guides are gold standard in their design, so as long as you follow them step-by-step exactly they tell you all you need to know and do (although that section might need a little bit of rephrasing to clarify that is what the user is doing).

Thanks. I am using the CLI since I don't have chrome on my laptop and would really prefer to keep it that way! So far everything else in the guide seems clear.

de0u That reads like it was a cable issue in the end. I'll report back if manjaro doesn't work for me (should be a new thread I guess)

navtis The phone (Pixel 8) arrived and I installed Graphene from Manjaro with no problems at all. Pleased :-)
