  • Are system updates and other app updates using mobile data?

Relatively new user here. One thing I didn't anticipate is the frequency of system updates compared to stock. I'm getting concerned that these updates are eating at my very limited mobile data. During both updates this week, I was on mobile data when I received the notifications instructing me to reboot. Did GrapheneOS download these updates automatically even though I was on mobile data? Is there a way to make it so it so it only happens on WiFi and non-metered networks?

In the play store, fdroid, and obtainium, I could restrict background updates to not use mobile data. I'm not sure how to do this for system updates and updates for apps that GrapheneOS packages in the "Apps" application.

You can tell the system update to only download updates over unmetered connections.

Go to
Settings --> System --> System update --> Permitted networks.

mobile data counts as metered connection.

    Aeon thank you!

Do you know how to do the same for apps installed from the built in Apps app?

    • Aeon replied to this.

      Sbpr

Open the "Apps" app, tapp the 3 dots in the top right corner-->settings -->allowed network type for auto-updates.

      set it again to Unmetered.
