GrapheneOS Duress password works with all users or only while unlocking own user? If the case, is the same duress password for all users? thanks for the long awaited feature!

GrapheneOS I'm very excited for the duress feature! What do you think about putting a little label with the duress PIN on the inside of the phone case in case some nosey person thinks they can just access ones phone?

I also read that Google is planning a Theft Detection Feature for later this year: "Theft Detection Lock is coming later this year and helps you keep your personal and financial data safe if your phone is ever snatched from you. This powerful new feature uses Google AI to sense if someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run, bike or drive away with it. If a theft motion is detected, it will be quickly locked down to keep your information out of the wrong hands."
Do you think it will find its way into GrapheneOS? It uses Google AI, so I'm not sure how this would work. I've been using Private Lock for some time, but it hasn't been updated for quite some time.

WoW, I'm going crazy. I've been hoping lately that GrapheneOS will bring us Duress for Christmas 2024.
This was the only feature I missed in GrapheneOS.

Titan_M2 How would it do that? Enabling it is opt-in. it's also not some poorly thought out attempt to "hide" things or data. It's a very clear complete wipe.

That's good, but there well known situation in airport security checks where officers ask travelers to provide the phone passcode for inspection. I'm pretty sure you officers wouldn't be happy seeing your device being wiped in their hand.

That would be a poor use of the feature. Going through airport security is not a situation in which the device owner is under duress. If someone doesn't plan on allowing someone at the airport to access their data, they should wipe their device before going to the airport (they can restore from a remote encrypted backup later) rather than waiting to be checked and giving out the duress password. If you have time to prepare, you're not under duress.

Pixel 8a is currently in pre-release and so it does not share the same updates I believe. I could be wrong.

It doesn't yet due to it being prerelease. QPR3 should be out soon which should bring the 8a on par with other supported models.

Hi,

I have several questions about the duress password:

Is the duress PIN to be entered in the settings the same as the one requested when unlocking the phone and opening an app, or do I have to enter yet another PIN?
When is the PIN + password activated? On the lock screen when the phone turns on and asks for the PIN only, or everywhere?
I don't really want to have to enter a PIN + password to unlock Signal.
What happens if I forget my password?

To make this clear to everyone:

Duress PIN/Password will work anywhere where the device credentials are requested. NOT JUST THE LOCKSCREEN.

Anywhere in the OS where the PIN/password is requested (enabling developer options, a PIN prompt to unlock an app, confirming your PIN to change the device's password, anywhere) can trigger the duress PIN.

The only exception is the SIM PIN prompt, since that's a different PIN, but we will likely extend it to that screen too, to try and avoid any confusion.

mmmm the release is in the alpha channel now, so to get the update you have to first change the release channel at Settings > System > System update > Release channel

Thank you for the implementation. This is a very useful feature that many users have been waiting for several years. I would like to get more documentation for it, whether it works before the first unlocking of the device, how best to set it up and in general tips from developers on how to use it
