PIN scrambling with numbers and letters?

Hi, I'm preparing myself for a new Pixel phone with GOS and I very much appreciate the PIN scrambling option to increase security of unlocking the device.

However, I am a cautious about the (new) pin code that I will have to create and remember, especially if the digits will be displayed differently each time.
So, I was thinking "What if the login dialpad would be like a phone dialpad with letters?"
If the scrambled dialpad for the login would show letters as well, then it would be up to the user to either remember a pin number sequence or a word or a combination of letters and digits.

As I mentioned, I do not have had access to GOS yet, so I don't know if this is already the case, but does the device login dialpad already show letters? And if not, would that be a nice and easy thing to add (optionally)?

Hello Stephan-P, The GOS PIN dial pad only shows numbers. It does not show letters like an old style touch tone telephone dial pad. The dial pad for making telephone calls does however show letters.

There is an option to have a full-fledged keyboard used for your login pin/password. It does not scramble. It's a regular keyboard with numbers, upper or lower case letters and special characters.

Suggestion to the developers:

Enhance the GOS PIN dial pad to also show letters like the phone dial pad, thus offering users alternative ways of remembering their PIN.

Stephan-P Stephan-P, Be assured that recommendation to the devs has been made on several different posts. I think the consensus is that the full keyboard option that is offered for the login pin/password screen would be much easier to use than a telephone keypad with letters on it. And certainly a telephone keypad with letters that is scrambled would cause a migraine LOL trying to enter in a phrase for a password.

I too was worried about remembering a long scrambled pin when I started. So, for the first few days I only used a 4 digit pin, then once I knew that well I added another digit, then another, and so on. I'm at 8 digits now. I could easily add more but there are situations when I need to quickly access my phone and more than 8 was taking a little too long.
