OEM Unlocking Not Available / Grayed Out on Factory Unlocked Pixel 6A

What the title says... been beating my head against this all afternoon after spending another chunk of money on another phone to get around the fact that the one I had from AT&T wouldn't allow OEM Unlocking because it was carrier-locked.

People seem to have a bunch of random issues with updates, different versions, patterns of factory resets, etc.-- and they don't work universally?

It just says 'connect to the internet or contact your carrier', and the option is grayed out in settings. :(

For the Pixel 6a, OEM unlocking won't work with the version of the stock OS from the factory. You need to update it to the June 2022 release or later via an over-the-air update. After, you've updated it you'll also need to factory reset the device to fix OEM unlocking.

Insert the SIM card and turn on the data, then - if your phone isn't blocked by your carrier - the OEM unlock will be available. I experienced the same, after inserting the SIM card the option became available. I hope this helps.

The bootloader cannot be unlocked if the phone is carrier locked, even if they permit bootloader unlocking. I've read many carriers enforce a carrier lock for a certain amount of time before automatically lifting that lock.

If you're sure your phone is unlockable, there was a known issue with the 5a that was fixed with an update. Make sure your phone is completely up to date and connected to the internet to attempt unlocking.

If OEM unlocking is available and not carrier restricted (Verizon = permanently, other carriers particularly in the USA may require you to meet conditions before enabling it) then you MUST connect the device to the internet, followed by the excerpt quoted from our documentation by @Standardwaste (thankyou 🤝).

I myself use a Pixel 6a as my daily driver and followed the procedure for this myself.
