Hello,

Noticed we can sign up for Google Play Store without signing up for Gmail. I also noticed this can be done without a password. Unfortunately, I was able to replicate this only twice. Otherwise, it no longer prompts me if I want to use my personal address. Is there a workaround for this to get it to ask every time or am I doomed to use a Gmail and password or personal address and password?

I understand I could use Aurora or login, but I would like to compartmentalize my profiles and the apps within each profile. Also, it's been recommended to use Google Play for its security model.

secretContainer just create a new google account with any email:

Google Account with a non-Gmail Email:
Step 1: Log out of any Gmail account(s) you’re currently logged in to, then open https://accounts.google.com.
Step 2: Click the Create Account link below the gray “sign in with your Google Account” box.
Step 3: Below the “Choose your username” field, click I prefer to use my current email address link.
Step 4: Enter your non-Gmail email address you would like to register with Google.
Step 5: Finish filling out the new account form and accept Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms.
Step 6: Confirm your new account with the email address you provided.

To clarify, trying to sign up for a Google account without Gmail.

The Play Store app will do its usual: sign in, sign up

From my experience, it's allowed this but sometimes will also say "sign up with personal email instead"

Thanks a lot, I've checked this but it's asking for a password too which is something I'd like to avoid. GOS Play Store app offered the sign up without me needing to create a password which is what I'd like to do

You can't use Play Store without an official Google Account. You need to make one.
We don't have a "GrapheneOS variant of Play Store". They're the exact same as stock OS, just unprivileged and can be user controlled by permissions.

I'm fully aware an official Google account is acquired but thank you for the confirmation that it's just stock with unprivileged, controlled permissions. Just means it's "luck" or something when Google Play Store app asks to use a personal account.

I have received the necessary feedback and answers to my query. Mod can close the topic!

        Thanks to those who answered.
