How do I get the Assistant to recognize contacts when I want to call/message a person?
Which app needs which permission? I've already tried contact scopes with the AA app/Google app, but the Assistant still doesn't recognize any names...
Android Auto Google Assistant does not find any contacts
Have you given this a read through to include Google's Android Auto Help pages at the end of the section?
ErnestThornhill Yes, I have. I got most of Android Auto working, but I'm still struggling with the contacts. On the Google help page I can't find any references on how to get Google Assistant recognize any contacts.
I did full testing on AA when released, and agree that getting the contacts to work on assistant was one of the biggest hurdles.
I unfortunately did not write everything I did down, but from memory believe google play services requires contacts permission as well.
Good luck !

billinmtl I have given the AA App, Google App and Play Services App the contacts permission now (via scopes), but the assistant still doesn't recognize any contacts. What else do I need to enable? BTW, do you also have the problem that the assistant sometimes says on the first try that an error occurred, but on the second try the assistant listens?
