Help with SMS

I have been trying to set up GOS for several weeks now on a Pixel 7 Pro.

Has anyone found an SMS app which gives "Received Notification Time Stamps" like my Samsung app used to do?
(Installing the Samsung app fails. I suspect, by design.)

Or, am I just missing a configuration?

I have used several different apps including Google, Quick, etc.

On some apps I am seeing the "Sent Notification" with a Time Stamp and I am seeing a "Received Notification", but it has no Time Stamp, so I cannot prove to anyone that what I sent was received by their phone at what time.

I have used this function many times before GOS. It prevents them from using the excuse of "I didn't get it" or "I didn't get it in time". I was able to say "go check on date x at time y". Not now. (Not yet.)

Please don't suggest going away from SMS. I can't get others to add another app and I don't do socialist media.

NewOldGuy if you know the carrier of the recipient you could send them SMS via email and then check the extended head of the email if you really must have it. There are plenty of guides online to show you how to send SMS via email. I did not find any SMS app that would support displaying received time stamps, by default they only display time sent.

NewOldGuy I'm replying to your post because I suspect there is also a link with how sms sent/received time stamps are handled. SMS received receipts, which I think is what you are referring to, is an sms feature I also use. Because my comments are more generalised, I have made a new post here:

Confirmation of SMS Delivery / Retrieval

The AOSP/GOS default Messaging app has always shown me a tick when an SMS I sent has been delivered, but there is no further delivery data available that I can find. A long touch > (i) shows Sent: date, time.

QKSMS will show the date/time an SMS you sent was delivered/received if you short touch the message you sent. A long touch > (i) gives both Sent: date, time and Delivered: date, time.

I don't access email with my phone. I'd need to go to my desktop for every SMS.

Since Samsung worked the way I want, I am hoping to find a way to make it work again in GOS. I was just hoping I didn't have to reinvent the wheel on this.

Just an FYI, the Apps (app repo client) tag is only for the GrapheneOS app client, not applications in general.

As for your problem, I don't think I've ever seen that, so I think your best bet would be to contact the developer of whatever sms app you're using/want to use and ask if they'd be willing to add a time-stamp to the delivery confirmation.

Alternatively, can you download the Samsung Messages app from their app store?

Sorry. It kept asking for more tags until I hit the Off Topic tag. I would have just left Pixel 7 Pro if it would have let me. I didn't think to try and remove any tags once it was happy.

I tried to install the Samsung app on the Pixel, but it always failed. I assumed it was looking to see if the phone was Samsung, but that is just a guess. I was looking to see if a recompile of the Samsung app was available, but so far, no joy.

I'm also going to try and see if I denied any necessary permissions. I did that on my Camera. Denied sensors, so the image I saw while taking pictures was landscape but the resultant image was always portrait. Changed permission and Camera is good. If I'm lucky, I might find another permission I missed and the time stamp will appear. 🤞

I tried that for you with version off of Apkmirror. It says it conflicts with existing package, presumably trying to install itself in the path of a system app. Even if it worked, I am not sure how that would affect integrity of the OS and fare through attestations and future updates, so if I was you, I'd look somewhere else. Like using E2EE messenger instead of outdated and insecure technology.
