Glad I didnt' wait for the P7

When I decided to get rid of my minimal phone (LP2) - and go with GOS on a pixel device - I had to decide whether to go with the P6P or wait a couple months for the P7.

When I was able to get a great deal on the P6P (< $550 - new) it seemed the way to go.

Now - seeing the specs on the P7 series - glad I didn't wait.

Seems that whether an iphone or an Android phone - the changes are minimal... very few features or even hardware enhancements that would entice an upgrade unless moving from an older EOL device.

One reviewer of the P7 line said that the P6 line was a leap but the P7 is a small hop. Many IOS fanboys are even more critical on the 14 models.

Thankfully - GOS is here and I can enjoy 4+ more years on my P6p....

Yup have the same thing happen to me. About a month ago, my Pixel 5a 5g died for reasons unknown. The local ubreakifix place said they wouldn't fix it so I sent it off to google. I bought a P6P assuming google wouldn't fix it. Ironically, google did fix my old phone and sent it back to me.
Regardless, I like the p6p even with its charging quirks. Glad I didn't wait because the pixel 7 is such a yawn.

Agreed. My old phone broke so I had no choice but to buy a new one about a month back. Seeing the new 7, I'm underwhelmed and content with my Pixel 6.

There really hasn't been much progression from one phone to the next in the last several years, just plodding evolutionary changes. The main thing you're going for now is just support life.

The one 'evolution-airy' trend that needs to change is the 'bigger is better'. My main hesitation with getting back to a smart device was the size.

Wouldn't be as concerning other than the reason for the large size is so evil ;) (if it is too big I HAVE to keep it in my hand all the time).

Coming from the LP2 - which was a perfect form factor - any new generation smart device just feels enormous, because the are!.

Until they put a real keyboard on, bigger is better. Can't bloody well type on an on-screen keyboard if its not wide enough, and they have yet to make one that's wide enough. They sure do get them really insanely tall (why?), but keep on missing the important dimension -- width!

It means you get a wider screen for video and games in landscape mode. Also wider phones tend to have more trouble fitting in a pocket than a taller phone does.

MetropleX Good point - when Samsung came out with their 'notes' they seemed HUGE... wonder if they were actually bigger than a standard device now?

Keep making them large - that's ok - but give us an option for something in the 4" range - perhaps with e-ink? I think a smart device (with GOS !!!) would be a huge hit.

The cynical side of me - is pretty confident we don't see smaller devices because - the larger they are the more likely we are never to put them down! If they don't fit in my pocket - or feel like a brick in my pocket - then I have to hold it!

WHen I go for a run - many (most) people are actually running while holding their phone in their hand... doh!
( I use my garmin watch with podcasts/music on it)... geez - when I'm running I really don't need anyone to call/text me... sort of defeats the purpose!

lcalamar psychology and manipulation are the name of the game when it comes to sales and attention metrics.

lcalamar phones are much more powerful these days. A small phone would necessitate a small battery. They would have to choose between shipping a device that feels "sluggish" or a device that cannot come close to lasting a day.
Either way it's a hard sell in today's market.
