  • Screen recording won't record audio for specific app under a 2nd user profile

Hi,

I've been using GrapheneOS for a week or so now, I set up a secondary user profile to contain Aurora Store and it doesn't have any Google Play services of any kind, I downloaded the following game from Aurora Store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.gungho.bm

Everything works as I expected except that the Screen record feature doesn't record audio from the game and is effectively silent.

This does not happen with the default (admin) user however, and the screen recordings do get the audio.

For testing purposes I set up a third user profile and downloaded Aurora Store + the above mentioned game again, and the Screen record still didn't pick up any audio.

It seems to also be specific to this app since other audio was picked up just fine.

Side note: In order to install the game, I had to go into Aurora Store spoof manager and set device to Google Pixel 3A and set language to Japanese, but the download will still fail sometimes, I would change spoof device a few times then logout/login and retry until it worked. Sometimes (rarely) it downloads even with English as language.

Just in case you have Google Play in your admin user, you may want to try with it in your secondary user too. Unlikely it will work but worth a shot.
If you don't, then it's very likely it's just another weird quirk of secondary users causing a bug. Your only hope is the app devs fixing the bug or Android itself if the issue isn't with the way the app is doing it. GrapheneOS doesn't have the resources to invest in fixing this kind of upstream usability bugs sadly.

4 months later

No Google Play on any users here.

I came back to this to say that I just tested this again, now with a guest profile and a secondary user, audio recording worked in both scenarios.

I don't know if this was a change on the GrapheneOS side of things, but the app itself was updated a few times since I made this post.
