How good of a connection is need to download

Trying to figure out which carrier would be best for a phone that has the ability to transfer connection to the phone I’m trying to download…

To. Straight talk works where I’m at but to my belief at and t or a carrier that uses their towers would prove to be moderately better.

Also my second question is how do I use the temporary phone I speak of to carry out the download.

It says in the guide to connect to the computer, but since it lists android as a transferable source does that mean all…

I would need is connection from the temporary phone to the new one via WiFi and download it from the website that way.

Or would it need an actual cable as if I was doing it from a computer to the phone I want graphene on?

I got an iPhone, soon to be pixel 6 and because of limiting circumstances a third inexpensive option to even carry out the install.

Sporeondeloreon When using the GrapheneOS web installer, the device running the installer (laptop, desktop, Android phone, Android tablet) downloads a package, opens up the package, extracts parts of it, and places each part in the right place in the flash memory on the target device via the USB-C cable.

The device running the installer can do the downloading step using WI-Fi, or an Ethernet cable, or cellular data, but the actual installation steps must happen via the USB-C cable. The USB-C connection is not used for "tethering" in the sense of sharing an Internet connection; the USB-C connection is used to run the flashing protocol between the GrapeheneOS web installer and the Pixel bootloader.

Good stuff man. Do you know if the shared connection for internet access needs to be a certain speed for this to work?

The usb c makes sense to meet the high speed data transfer but isn’t that only as good as the laser ice signal and data speed?

There is no shared connection. The device running the GrapheneOS installer needs some kind of Internet connection -- faster is better, because the download is large, but it's not super-gigantic, so there is no need for a gigabit fiber connection. The Pixel which GrapheneOS is being installed on will be off of the network because it will be running the bootloader, not a regular operating system.

The USB-C connection is not used to provide Internet service to the device that GrapheneOS is being installed on, because the device GrapheneOS is being installed on will be off the network, because it will be running the bootloader. The USB-C connection is used to carry out brain surgery on the Pixel device.

Regardless of whether it seems to make sense to use a USB-C connection, there is no other way to install GrapheneOS on a Pixel device. It's not a matter of opinion, or a best practice; it is just the only way.

My apologies if I had misspoke but when I said shared connection my plan was to use an inexpensive device…

Like another android phone (Nokia c300) with internet then WiFi + use a usb c to usb c to connect (the Nokia with internet through data)…

And download graphene OS To the pixel 6 (with no internet or data on it currently). Would this work?

de0u now that I’ve read this over a couple more times it does make sense to me.

The device receiving the installation can’t possibly be on the internet as it lacks the “brains” to even be on there to begin with.

A usb c to c connection from the Nokia with an ok data connection would be sufficient to carry this task out.

Although slowly being that my connection in the forest isn’t so great, it’s no requirement to have high speed data.

As long as we have the high speed usb c to c cable. If there’s anything I’m missing feel free to lighten me more.

I'm not convinced this one would do, it's only got 32 GB storage and a good chunk of that will be occupied by the system itself.

And you said the Nokia likely won’t work but I’m downloading graphene onto the pixel not the Nokia.

If I remember correctly the device receiving the graphene download is what would need that requirement.

As spring-onion pointed out, the device running the installer must have enough flash storage free to download the package, and also enough RAM free to run the installer. Please go over the prerequisites carefully, because missing any one ingredient will likely cause the installation to fail.

Sporeondeloreon The pixel device you are installing from needs to be connected to the internet for a short period to check if it can OEM unlock. Once it has done so, you can go into developer options and select OEM unlocking.

Probably? But it's bard to be sure in advance. Which device? Maybe others here have recently been successful with the device you are considering.
