graphy00 I've been using GrapheneOS for some time now, and also normally being annoyed by open-source projects that aren't too beautiful, I have to say that GrapheneOS ESPECIALLY looks very well designed to me. Upstream AOSP choices don't affect anything negatively, too. I don't really see a problem with the UI or anything, however I understand people who aren't satisfied with the pre-installed calculator or clock app. But those can be easily replaced! I'd say it would be better to customize your phone on your own, because to this point, GrapheneOS has been one of the most beautiful FOSS software I've seen.

Haha no, the original designer is Juanjo Guarnido, I was a freelance illustrator for a while and now I'm training to be a system and network administrator. When my new Artstation page is ready, I'll publish it because drawing is still a passion for me.

@graphy00 you are exactly on point. Don't be bothered by all the nay sayers. Bottom line is, however, that GOS will not be changing their direction for all their reasons.

But you are right and your feedback is gold.

Fyi my GOS looks almost identical to a samsung phone. But see the new user won't know how to do it and only see the first impression (black and white and barebone system).

AlanZ For years and years on iOS I tried very hard to emulate the look of GrapheneOS. I mean way before I knew about GrapheneOS. Couldn’t stand the garish brightly coloured child like iOS UI. Each to their own I suppose!

Absolutely. But eg. the contacts app cannot be replaced, as there's no way of setting another one as default in the settings.

I know that, thank you. If you choose "always", you won't be able to select any other app anymore, until you uninstall the default-one you selected. Or is there another place than the default-apps in settings to change/revert that?

Most "normal" people I've met who care so much about the aesthetics of their OS that they would base their OS choice on how customisable it is are also the ones who are savvy enough to know how to go outside the OS to customise it. Also, like others have said, additional focus on features takes away from the focus on security and privacy.

There you can find "Clear default preferences" button showing up for apps you selected as "Always" in the complete-action-with dialog.

There's also
Settings->Apps->Default apps->Opening links->AppInQuestion "Verified Links"
where you might need to rectify things .

Total Launcher is great, has almost everything even in free version.

I'm having issues with that launcher too sadly, related to recents, black screen quite often (instead of seeing the home screen), have to swipe up several times to get back "seeing" anything :-(
