  • Flarum: remove the "edit post" lock after a certain time?

I often need to edit posts afterwards, and I cannot do that. There are certain actions like having a top post, viewing comments, and integrating that knowledge in the main post; or removing false claims, outdated infos etc from above post, that dont work.

If its possible, would be great to remove this lock, so that posts can be edited forever.

missing-root Time-based limits on editing and deleting posts were initially disabled. They were heavily abused by spammers and were starting to be abused by malicious trolls. Spammers were making innocuous posts and then editing in the spam links weeks later to avoid it being noticed. Malicious trolls were beginning to use similar tactics. It's not going to be possible for us to enable it. The time limit could be more than 10 minutes but Flarum doesn't provide customization for the timer and we aren't going to add an extension for it. You'll need to convince Flarum to add configuration for it and we could raise it to an hour.

Thanks, thats very bad. Fuck spammers, do something useful with your life.

missing-root The spammers are also increasingly using AI generated content pretending to be our users. We're blocking using known spammer IPs for registration which will impact some users who use VPNs. We've whitelisted Tor exit nodes to avoid blocking people via Tor, but we can quickly block registration via Tor as a whole if it starts being heavily abused. It's unfortunate it has come to this but there will going to be hundreds of spam posts every day without this. The malicious attacks are an even bigger issue. We need to be careful about support for images/videos due to the CSAM raids on our Matrix chat rooms. We tried making a media proxy service to allow putting inline images hosted on imgur but imgur blocked OVH completely due to abuse which is why that's not working and we didn't make it easier to use yet.
