These fingerprint sensors are such garbage. It would be understandable if it was their first try. But the 6a has the same crap, while a 4a just worked, instantly, also to auto-unlock without using the power button.

missing-root I am also a Pixel 7a user here. I have installed Spigen screen protector and with this protector on, I dont like the performance of the fingerprint sensor - Its unreliable and works only when the fingertips are super clean.
The best option now is to clean fingertips while registering and register same thumb 4 times. I dipped my thumb in shallow water and rubbed it twice on a tissue paper (now its neither fully wet nor fully dry) and then registered it. Same thing repeated 4 times for registering the same thumb 4 times. Now after this poor hack, it works for most of the time, but still sometimes I have to use passcode to unlock the phone.

The fingerprint sensor works well for me on a Pixel 8 with a screen protector.

p338k yeah my P8P is working fine now too. I was trying to use the tip of my finger at first, but when I started using my print further back towards the first knuckle it became much more reliable.

Not with the current hardware. I'm not sure how Google is getting the Class 3 security with only the one front camera, but GrapheneOS developers have stated that they do not consider it secure enough to provide as an option. https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/8564-any-word-on-possible-face-unlock/8

There was a high demand for Android Auto among GrapheneOS users, and when it comes to adding new features, I think they only consider adding new features if they provide significant privacy/ security improvements for the operating system.

dsjvhjdjhgvcjhsdc Exactly, I managed to improve mine a little by registering the fingerprint several times with a clean finger, but it's still a bit random

It works most of the time, sometimes I have to press harder on the screen, other times I have a wet hand or with sweat and it works instantly anyway

I can honestly say that right now, the only feature from the stock OS that I REALLY miss is the face unlock, but I can't give up the incredible features of GrapheneOS just to get the face unlock back

This would not be my recommendation, because adding the same thumb multiple times will most likely increase the false-positive detection and therefore make the fingerprint less secure 🔐

My experience is that you should only save two fingerprints if possible.
It's crazy, but the more fingerprints you save, the worse the recognition will be.
It's better to only scan both thumbs carefully (not just the fingertip!).
This works pretty well for me with Pixel 7 Pro and 8 Pro.

It is crazy while the 4a sensor worked in milliseconds, always. The sensor setup was also faster. No idea, seems like castly superior technology they threw away for nothing.

I imagine this likely still remains the case on the 9th generation Pixels, otherwise devs would have added it (or at least, create an issue for a planned release of it).
