I have been running GoS on my Fold since the day it was released. Other than some bugs that were mostly resolved, I have been enjoying this OS as much as I did on my Pixel 6 Pro. About 3-4 months ago, I started getting the overall feeling that "damn, this phone is slow." Despite not really adding any new apps or filling up the storage. Just a real poor experience. One of the biggest problems was how unresponsive the camera app was. Taking many seconds just to realize I'm holding it in landscape mode. Apps closing after swiping to another, even after only a few seconds. Basically the phone was unusable.
Finally I forced myself to go through the tedious process of factory-resetting directly on the device. I've reinstalled all the same exact software and reconfigured everything exactly the same as before, and it's night-and-day different. Something between the original build and now, when upgrading all along the way, had crippled the performance of the underlying operating system. Not sure why, and I didn't care enough to dig deeper. Just wanted to share this experience, in case people forgot that the Fold isn't that slow.
Although, it's still way slower than my P6P sitting right beside it on my desk. I think this is purely due to the failed experiment of Google making their own silicon. If Signal would let us use more than one phone, I'd probably switch between the two devices depending on what I'm doing.
Last, but not least, there are some features you might not have known that were baked into updates of the Fold GoS firmware. Perfect example was Android Auto. I had no idea that the Graphene team was working on this, or if it's even possible to use without factory resetting. My understanding is that this HAD to be installed into the core OS. I must have read that 1,000 times in various forums. I haven't tested it yet, but should be a great addition.
Anyhow thanks for all the updates, and if your phone is acting up, it might just need a swift kick.
