  • Beerman I've read through their ToS and they seem to be releasing previously taken e-mail addresses if the account is deleted (which can happen automatically if you don't pay), which is not really safe considering you might have some accounts attached to your address.

Proton Mail is alright, but it's mobile app is mediocre and you cannot use IMAP (you need Proton Mail Bridge which requires a subscription and only works on PC). It's expensive for a personal user, too.

Tutanota is OK as well but I'm not a fan of being stuck with their own client apps.

I've been reading about Posteo recently and looks like I'm going to go for it.

  • Separate slider for system sounds is also a feature I miss after switching from a Samsung device. I'm not a fan of facebook messenger sounds or charging sound blasting at full ringer volume.

  • Graphite create and maintain a profile to learn your typing habits

Please elaborate on this. The Reddit comment I linked earlier clearly mentions that word prediction personalized dictionary is local. (I remember even being surprised that the dictionary doesn't have any sort of syncing feature and all personalization is lost when resetting data / installing it on a different device)

    • User2288 Gboard "learns" and helps you, but also will upload your habits the first chance it connects to the internet

Isn't there a setting that allows you to disable that?
Also it should be noted that Gboard seems to not connect to Google account in any way, so all of the data it sends should be anonymous.

      • I am not a big fan of the AOSP keyboard, OpenBoard and similar because they all lack one of the keyboard layouts that I use (phonetic Russian). Only Gboard seems to have that.

      • I'm one of these "crazy" people. I think that Google apps not having elevated privileges is already a huge privacy improvement. They aren't able to spy on you in the background anymore, only when you use one of their apps. They can't bypass the microphone, location and camera indicators anymore either.

I might be biased but I feel like I get a lot less ads that are related to what my phone could have "heard" after I installed GrapheneOS.

      • [deleted] sorry, I meant the new Material You themed icons, not icon packs

      • [deleted] most (if not all) 3rd party launchers lack features like themed app icons or proper cooperation with gesture navigation.

        • So apparently, the stock alarm clock app is working. I don't know what happened, perhaps I was dismissing the alarm and immediately falling back asleep so I forgot. I saw other people on the internet having a similar issue so I thought it's the OS' fault.
Apologies if I have caused any confusion.

Actually, wait, what if it happens randomly like people said? Whatever, I'll see in the next few days.

          • I've set both apps to go off at a slightly different time in the morning. I'll post an update tommorow

          • I tested Google's alarm clock app and it seems to work. However, after testing the stock app again, it works too...

          • treequell Yeah that's exactly what I did some minutes ago. A notification popped up that the alarm is about to go off, but it eventually didn't

          • Hi, I installed GrapheneOS a few days ago on my Pixel 4a. I'm satisfied with the overall experience so far, but one thing bothers me: alarm clock just straight up doesn't work.

I have an alarm set for 7:00 every day, and it has never went off yet. Thankfully I have other family members at home that wake me up, but for someone who lives alone, this might end up really badly.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

            • hemlockiv Most QS tiles don't work from lockscreen

This one is a feature actually, although they could have made it toggleable.
