  • Is it possible to move contacts or better just some of the contacts from the owners profile contacts to private space/other profiles?

I wanted to use some messengers in private space separate from my owner profile, so that those messengers don't run 24/7, but only when i need them.

My concern is mostly the constant tracking by advertisers etc. and the personal contact list makes one easily identifiable. How could i manage different contacts for different (messaging) apps?

Or is private space / other user profiles over the top for this? Should i better just install play services and Play store in the owner profile and live with that? How did you manage to use messengers and not giving these access to all your contacts but only those you want to have in your messaging apps?

  • I think the price is grotesquely too high for the Tablet. Honestly, this will be a huge flop for them if they stick with this price point. People can get a brandnew iPad for 100€ or more less, whilst in the android field you can get similar tablets like this pixel tablet for 50% of Googles fantasy price.

I really hoped for a price below 400€, but for the over 600€ they want i will buy an iPad once my old ones battery is fully dead.

I could never justify spending that much money on an android tablet, specially as i know both, iOS and Android. And for a stationary tool like a tablet (i use mine only at home) in all honesty, iOS is lightyears ahead of Android. Onlyif it is a third of the iPad price you can oversee all the downsides, but for more money it would be self-humiliation to buy the Pixe Tablet.

I am not even sure if the Graphene Team will waste time on supporting the tablet, as the number of users will be very limited or close to zero. The phones were cheaper, so many more possible users that could make a switch to Graphene. But the tablet? I think it will be another one year product of google and will be abandoned very soon.

    • Aside the imessage thing you probably will not notice much difference. You should use the Pixel for a few days and see if you can get along with the oled flickering that the screen shows. I don't use my 6a as a daily driver because it stresses my eyes, i prefer the lcd screens who are much easier to read.

But apart from that, Graphene OS is really working well. I also have an iPhone XR, but i wouldn't say there is anything missing and Graphene is very stable, never had something that didn't work. Their web browser is working well, the usability is excellent (if you can manage your iOS settings, you will manage the Graphene settings too).

A problem could be that you use iMessage. If you really use this daily, it might be annoying to switch from iOS to Android. If i had a service that is really only running on one specific platform, it's not worth to change the OS.

And think about that the iphones get much longer support. Graphene supports Pixels mostly for the time Google supports these, and that is only half the time that iPhones get nowadays. That doesn't make them so expensive if you really use these as long as they get supported.

So i think a change will not make you lucky. In my case the 6a oled screen makes me still use the iPhone XR as a daily driver and i plan to do this, until it's really dead or doesn't get supported anymore.

I could think that your "screen" will be the missing imessage feature and that will make it hard to use only Android.

But in general, Graphene OS is really great, easy to install or uninstall, easy to use, no real bugs and constant security updates. If i should ever switch fully to Android, then there is no other choice than a Pixel running GrapheneOS.

When you use google contacts they already know who you are. Some of your contacts will have your real name in their contacts and if more than one or maybe some business saved you under the same name you are identified.

      • But for what does he need the google account if he wants to stay anonymous?

Just use a vpn and install google services and play store. You do not need to sign in, to install apps just use aurora store or others. The play services can get updated in the original play store without ever signing in.

      • I use Mullvad, not as much to hide my identy, but to avoid trackers and ads. Mullvad has a good adblocker-trackerblocker dns included in their service, so i don't need to use any adblockapp, what is convenient.

For those who want to buy anonymous, but don't want to handle with crypto currency's, you can buy 6-month scratch cards on Amazon. I used one month to see if it's good, paid with credit card. When i decided to use it regularly, i simply deleted the app, bought a scratch card from Amazon and generated a new user account. For the account they don't need any personal information, it's just a random number you write down and you can add payments to these, like explained on their website.

Mullvad works good so far, they deliver what they offer. Using a vpn doesn't make you invisible for all instances, but it does what is possible for the idea behind a vpn.

The speeds are mostly fast, i didn't find a website not working with them. Though they are mostly blocklisted by streaming providers, but i don't use them for that.

      • Problem is, only very few Banks allow Swatch Pay for their cards. Zero in USA, in Europe it is a lottery. Italy seems to be the only place with lots of choices.

He's probably just talking about the average power consumption of these services. Without these running, the battery lasts about 30-50 percent longer, depending on usage. But i think that's typical for android. Even the stock google rom shows this behavior. Both, GrapheneOS and Stock Google don't take much power when in idle or standby, but once you use them, the google services of course drain a lot of battery because they are connected to everything in some or the other way.

      • I had this problem when I used the original cable with an usb-a adapter. Do you connect directly to USB c or do you use an adapter? If you use an adapter you should buy a cable a to c, that worked in my case.

      • For adblocking you have most of the same options like you have on stock Android. You can either use systemwide blocking via an app, or use for example things like adguard public DNS.

I don't have 5G, but VoLTE, WiFi Calling works fine without problems. Though it doesn't show HD voice calling, it seems to use it, because quality is very good and when calling someone it rings instantly.

You can install apps from anywhere. If you install the play store from Google it's probably best to get apps from there. I use mostly the direct download from the publishers, if they offer that on their website. A good alternative if not using the play store is the Huawei app store, because all apps there run without Google and they will take care not having malicious apps in there because of their difficult market situation.

        • I think what you look for is the exploit protection compatibility mode. You find this under your apps settings when you go in the menu of an APP where you can set restrictions etc.

          Theres a toggle for this.

          • Open Camera is also a good alternative. Doesn't need any Google related software.

Assuming you made a second profile for the google things, and opened a new Google account without any personal data, and have no email, contacts and calendar in that profile, what data should they get?

As long as you keep things strictly separated and don't have personal data in the google profile, they only get that someone is using an app.

Graphene does no magic, it makes it harder for google to get data and offers phone usage without google services. But when you use Google, you use it and they will collect.

The moment you have contacts in that profile, Google will know who you are simply from looking at the people in your contact list-someone of these will have you in their contacts, and if there are a bunch of people knowing you under the Name XYZ, than it's pretty sure you are this guy.

And from that point you could use stock Google, makes no difference.

          • Don't know if that is normal behavior, but how makes it sense security wise that you have to allow apps (for example the browser, or an alternative store etc.) that they can install apps, whilst you don't have to do this for the files app?

I know you still have to click on the install button, but where's the difference to just let any app do this?

Background is, i downloaded an apk with the browser and forgot about it. I found it in the stock files app and wanted to long press it at first, to erase it. I accidentally just made a short press and the install window popped up. I would have had expected that i would have to allow the files app to install something first?

            • It seems to be that the toggles get reset after each reboot now, at least on my 6a.

            • Don't know if this is the right place, but i found a little bug. When switching back to the main profile from an ended user session profile, the fonts in the app drawer are unreadable with a black font when the dark mode is/was activated.

Disabling dark mode and switching it on again solves this, but i think its not ment to be like that.

            • Same happened to me with the last update TQ1A.221205.011.2022121100. (Pixel 6a)

All toggles for stop activity when not in use were reset.

I think that is a question you should ask the manufacturer of the earpiece.

When i pair my airpods they are not visible until I put these in pairing mode. And others can't listen to your music or calls. If they should pair with them, you hear them, not they you.
