App suggestion for Office docs (incl. MS Office)

Hi there,

I'm looking for a (simple) document office viewer including support for MS Office documents.
So far, tried Collabora Office and LibreOffice Viewer - both with mixed results away from desired .

If you want 100% compatibility, use the MS Office app. If you want a free & open source app, I can recommend OnlyOffice, although it is sluggish.

Thanks. Librera does not support Excel files. ONLYOFFICE is good, a bit too big and, maybe overkill for my purpose, similar to Collabora but better, I think.

@hasunemiku2015 - As I already pointed out in the OP, I tried it.
@[deleted] - OpenDocument Reader doesn't appear to support Excel format for example.
@jufstp - For something closed source even Google Docs/Sheets are good enough and 8-9 times smaller than MS ones.
@Dumdum - thanks for clarifications, I guess I should not skipped that in the initial requirements :)

I was looking for an alternative too, since I've used practically all of the open/FOSS alternatives in an effort to not use Mikeysoft's trashy and tracker-packed Excel app, but all were sluggish, or full of bugs, or did not support well documents after a certain size. Google Sheets works without network permission (so has no tracking), without an account (unlike Excel), and even without any Google Services, and has all the features I need (eg. filters).

The only issue is that it does not open OpenDocument formats: when I try to open a .ods spreadsheet, it says "You're offline. To save Google Sheets, you'll need to be online. Try again when you're connected.", probably because it wants to connect to Google servers to convert the document in Google's format.
Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx) work out-of-the-box, and .csv and .tsv work as well, but are firstly opened in read-only mode, and if one wants to modify them the app prompts the user to convert them and save a copy locally.

Try converting your .ods files to .xlsx using LibreOffice or OnlyOffice. Once converted, you can easily open and work with the files offline in Google Sheets.

I recently tried Collabora and found it to be laggy on my Pixel 7. I hope they find a way to fix that because I like the app otherwise.

I've been using MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), but specifically version:

The reason why is because this is the last version before they made signup/accounts a requirement to use their apps. This version, the user can skip Sign In and use the app completely including new documents, editing and saving.

After a fixed interval ( I think a half dozen or so runs of the app) the app forces the user to finally sign up/sign in. But all you need to do it clear the app memory/cache to reset the app and you can keep using it. Rinse and repeat.

Network permissions can be killed with no impact on the app.

Once installed, avoid updating it.

Nice one, that's a neat idea. Unfortunately Excel is the only "good" mobile app in my opinion.

I'm also aware of OnlyOffice and Collabora Office (both open source) but they're a bit barebones on mobile and slow and buggy. Also there's Softmaker Office which I think is paid but is full-featured on par with the desktop version.

Collabora, OnlyOffice didn't work for me for editing even basic spreadsheets. I ended up buying a Microsoft Office subscription and using their Android apps on Pixel Tablet with GOS.

One caveat, I didn't want MS apps to have continuous Internet access, so I activated them by logging into my account and then disabled Network permission before giving them access to any files. This works for a months and then MS apps need to revalidate the license. Uninstall MS apps, re-install, log in, disable Network permission and use them for another month. Rinse and repeat. It's a pain but that's the only working solution I could find for working with spreadsheets offline.
