Any FOSS calendar apps that let you share a calendar?

Hi All,

Can anybody recommend a decent free open source google calendar replacement that allows you to easily share a calendar with somebody?

I looked at Proton Calendar but I believe you have to be a paid user to share calendars and they can only be configured on the webGUI.

What calendar app do you use?

Just for your information: Simple mobile tools, which Simple Calendar Pro is a part of, was sold to ad company ZipoApps.

There is a Fork of the Simple Mobile Suit called Fossify now. https://github.com/FossifyOrg

Currently they dont have a release yet, but are working on it.

Until then I am using myself a pre zipoapps version of Simple Calendar I got directly from github. Not ideal but its a stop gab solution.

Moisture Interesting, however it doesn't request network access either and its publicly on github. So not too much of a trade off

you have to keep in Mind Simple Mobile Tools are now owned by an Ad tech company and that means I cannot recommend it anymore. Note even the github.

I do check in to the fossify github every couple of days for a new release but I think we can expect the earliest something in january or Feb.

According to the source code, nothing has changed, so simple mobile apps can still be recommended.

jufstp What? It’s only just happened. I think that’s terrible advice. I would say they definitely CANNOT be recommended until the intents of the new operator can be ascertained. The suite has been sold off to a known privacy unfriendly ad first company.

It has, however, been forked by one of the original devs, so when that’s released I suspect that will be a suitable replacement.

mmmm Yes, but what's the problem? Advertising doesn't mean data collection, and the application can be cut off from the network - in fact, it has no basic network access.

jufstp Perhaps. But passing from a previous privacy champion to a privacy unfriendly proprietor isn’t a very convincing reason to choose to recommend for new potential users. Previous users can continue to use until something happens - but it’s not prudent to recommend this to new users, quite the contrary in fact.

I mean, recommending the current Github versions are fine for the moment. So long as they understand that its a temporary option, and are willing to make another switch soon as the fork is ready.

Personally I don't think this is much of an issue. A lot of people seem to not be fond of frequent switches (or switches at all) and so are likely to avoid going: [Insert currently used app] > Simple Mobile Tool app > Fossify app, and instead just wait so they can go straight to Fossify.

mmmm Maybe it's the play store versions that will have changes, but I doubt they'll implement anything in the github versions.

With the Apps being sold, I doubt we will see any updates on github anymore.

So like @mmmm said, it should not be recommended anymore to new users. having no updates long term will lead to security issues and using the ad infested playstore version will lead to privacy problems as zipoapps uses lots of trackers in the apps they bought and added their ad modules.

I was also considering what to replace Simple Calendar with and how to optimally handle calendar sharing (within my family).
After trying Etar Calendar + Etesync for some time (and not being completely satisfied) I decided to switch completely to Tuta(nota) Calendar, which is part of a (paid) service I have been using for a long time. The Tuta calendar has improved significantly (a year ago I considered it unusable). Now the calendar is comfortable to use, the sharing works great, and once they get the encrypted search working and add a few minor features, I'll be completely satisfied.

And apart from etar and simple calendar, what's the alternative? You can't import or export anything on etar.
