  • note-taking app syncing between tablet / phone / PC

I was using signal on desktop and phone as a note-taking app (message to self). very handy as synchronises between desktop and phone. I just got a google pixel tablet and put grapheneOS on it. signal of course doesn't allow to link an android tablet. is there any other solution that would allow me to sync note-taking on a grapheneOS pixel tablet, pixel phone and PC?

i've tried a number of note taking apps that advertise sync as a feature and have found them all lacking. have ended up using obsidian and syncing my notes using syncthing. it's not FOSS but i revoke internet access and all the notes are stored locally as .md so i feel comfortable with my security. if you wanted to stay FOSS you could easily replace obsidian with your note taking app of choice. syncthing is easy to set up and imo super effective for lots of small files (like notes tend to be)

thanks for these ideas, will give them all a try and see which one works for me!

Notesnook works well for me between two laptops and phone.

Have you tried both obsidian and joplin?

I'm wondering which is better for note taking?

I just installed obsidian and was impressed. Much better at rendering markdown than quillpad. Editing bar is very good.

      Wondered about joplin.

I think I have my answer. Obsidian is better.

That toolbar, and most important of all... Undo button. That button is more important than the whole app. Decision made.

radodomic Have you tried Molly, a fork of Signal? One of its features is linking Android tablets to your set of connected Signal devices. (Apparently this can work, even if your primary devices uses vanilla Signal and your Android Tablet uses Molly - but double check this.) This was added in September 2023 and was fully bug-free in December 2023.

There is a custom F-Droid repo (more info on that on its GitHub repo) for both versions (non-FOSS and FOSS).

You can download the FOSS version of Molly via Accrescent, which has been mirrored into the GrapheneOS Apps store for at least 1 month now.
