guinnessMD You are entitled to your own use case and opinions about the OS, but the fact is that "erase after x attempts" is a pretty nonsensical and unsecure approach in its own. First of all there is no hardware support to keep track of a feature like this, which would mean that you are relying on software to keep track of password or pin-code attempts and software can be manipulated.
Aside from that it adds a bunch of ways for people to mess with you, especially on GOS. Just type in the wrong password 10x times and you have wiped someone's device which probably isn't backed up.
Second of all, this was already discussed in https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/6910-self-destruction-after-10-incorrect-attempts-erases-and-encrypts-everything/11 and the GOS account provided various points as to why an implementation for this isn't needed. You can use profiles as they use their own encryption keys, and whenever you are done using the phone just end the session and you wont have any encryption keys for the profile in memory.
Turn on auto-reboot to what ever value you feel most comfortable with and you already have protection against BFU from the owners profile. Not to mention that the secure element and brute force throttling today already makes brute forcing non-practical.
As for the statement about people not handing over phones with GOS to other people is just not true, i am willing to bet that most people here are just using GOS for an extra layer of security against exploitation and privacy concerns towards Google or other instances and just want a secure device. I use mine as any other phone and wouldn't really care to hand it off to a relative to show photos or what ever. There are user profiles that i can set up if i really wanted to. Anyone are free to use their devices how ever they want.
