KivDul4 if you take it to a physical location for replacement, it may be worth mentioning you'd rather not have it wiped. i can only speak to my experience, but i had a similar issue to you. i took it in for repairs under warranty and said i was sad about the wipe. the repair tech said they could easily bypass the wipe and not to worry about it. got my phone back in full working order.
obviously, this may not work. g**gle's policy is clearly a full wipe and other stores may not know how or be willing to bypass it. but if connecting a mouse continues to fail you, probably worth checking.
