Hello all! I've recently installed GrapheneOS and have been using it for a few weeks now. Best mobile OS experience I've ever had - particularly in being able to say goodbye to Google!
As others have suggested in older posts, I've kept my setup rather lean for the time being, to make sure that the apps I use run smoothly, so I only have a small handful of apps installed at the moment. email, VPN, and Signal. I installed them without using Google or any 3rd party, just went and got the official APKs from the developers.
Installing my apps were hiccup-free. Updating, though, I've been seeing some strange behavior.
Signal seems to roll out frequent updates, so that's what I'll focus on. When a new version is available, I go and download the latest APK from Signal's website (https://signal.org/android/apk). I know Signal has a self-updater, but I prefer downloading the updates myself. Once downloaded, and after opening the APK, the OS prompts if I'd like to update Signal, where I tap 'Update'. Update takes about 10 seconds, and once finished, the OS prompts 'App Installed' but it doesn't say Signal - now it says org.thoughtcrime.securesms.ApplicationContext
.
I know that Signal's official package name is org.thoughtcrime.securesms
so I'm not sure of this other name?
I think this, or something similar, was mentioned a month or two ago, but can't seem to find it.
Since I'm downloading Signal's updates directly from them, is this just a simple bug and no cause for concern? Or is it something else?
