Background: I am moving away from iPhone/Apple, completely. Including letting go of my iPhone, Watch, HomePods, HomeKit, etc. Trying to set up as secure and anonymous set up as possible.
So I started building a pixel 6a to see how I liked GOs, and I love it. Using 0launcher to make things very minimal and distraction free. But I’ve not put my iPhones sim (which is Mint and paid up till July) in the phone. Had a 3 month Mint card in it at first and that has run out so I mostly would toggle the hotspot on my iPhone to use the 6a. Trying to transition but it’s slow. So 6a is cool, but decided to pick up an 8 on the Black Friday deal as the MTE seems to be even more secure. Plus having 2 devices lets me use the authenticator app, right?
Now I’ve got the 6a I’m thinking of using as a hardened hotspot to use the data left on the old sim as well as make sure SMS and the number is still working as I’ve not transferred some of my 2fa. I’m picking up a new fresh clean sim line for the 8.
I’m running orbot and Mullvad as VPNs currently.
Anyways are there any tutorials/apps/etc for using this as a hotspot/router? Maybe firewall/vpn type apps? Monitoring apps? Any other ideas as far as security/use cases for a second phone. Mostly it would be paired to my main phone and my notebook computer , may let some friends use it from time to time if they need data (would love more granular control for other users).
Also from a security perspective would you recommend keeping the 6a clean of data like pics/music/etc or could it be used as backup/server type device in addition to the hotspot?
Thanks as always for the help.
