I do understand that if good practices and common sense is applied one can avoid this problem, but I still cant help shake off the question. Seeing demonstrations of products like OMG cables on current android and apple flagships, with settings like usb debugging off, I wonder how resilient would a GOS pixel be to it?

O.MG cables are just HID devices. It simply uses existing keyboard-related features and can't do much other than that.
iPhones have the ability to turn off most keyboard input. AOSP doesn't outside of the lock screen.
You could mitigate it with GrapheneOS though. Setting USB to charging only should in theory prevent this but I can't test this. You can also fully disable USB which will almost certainly disable this (you'll have to fully turn the phone off to charge it though).
They are completely useless for evil maid attacks anyway as everything that can be done using the cable can be done by a human. It is only useful if you want to make a malicious cable to target people plugging it in.

Search results yield listings priced from $180 to $320, all mentioning that in past such toys were $20K but now for some undisclosed reason they're ₁₀₀ times cheaper.

And all require some online activation as they're shipped deactivated per undisclosed regulation.

Discouraging.

Though I'm still curious to check it out, If someone knowledgeable cares to share which one to get I would appreciate that. And after donate it to GOS team if they see any use in it.

There's no "undisclosed reason" like its a conspiracy. The actual product was developed by R&D contractors for intelligence agencies.

Its an incredibly simple premise (a flipper can do it, its just an HID device) and because of that people made their own. You could make your own, with some soldering and a microcontroller that could handle HID signals

Get a flipper if you are actually interested in low level tinkering & protocol fuckery but assuming you aren't you won't have much use for these things, its mostly for compSci nerds
