cant change wallpaper on pixel 7 pro

first time user, and so far have found everything to be working well and easy going. however, when i get into the default wallpaper app to change it, i tap "my photos" and the entire application crashes, every time. ive tried restarting and clearing cache/data, but that doesnt fix it. i would prefer to not be stuck looking at what is essentially a mirror for the rest of the time i use this phone. any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, how are you attempting to change the wallpaper? I suggest the following method:

Long press the home screen > Wallpaper & style > Change wallpaper > My photos > Select preferred Gallery app > Select preferred image > Check preview and confirm.

Could you confirm whether you are following this method, and if the crash is still occurring, at which step exactly does it occur?

Same issue here with a pixel 7a.
Issue applies on owner, and other profiles.

It says the wallpaper is applied, but doesn't apply it.
Also not after a full reboot of the device.

From the default gallery app you can't set a picture as wallpaper, only through settings.

Update, apparently after a few magic reboots the wallpaper did apply.
