Unable to transfer files from M2 Mac to GraphineOS Pixel 8 Pro

I have tried Android File transfer and from the Mac App Store - Phone Manger.

With the phone in non developer mode, neither app can see the phone. When I go into Owner, I can activate developer. AFT still can't see the phone, but now Phone Manager can. The only problem is, it doesn't matter which Profile I am in, when you transfer files via Phone Manager they end up in the Owner profile files.

It is not possible to activate developer mode in the other profiles.

How can I get my files in my respective profiles? Is there any way I can transfer them to owner, then move to another profile?

It's rather disappointing, I have a lot of files I use a lot and need them on the phone. There was no problem with AFT or Phone Manager on e/OS.

I have never moved files using Android File Transfer. If I want to move files between profiles, I either use some sort of cloud storage app, like Nextcloud, or I use a thumb drive.

I would rather blame Apple for this gate keeping. Don't get me wrong, it should work with your approach as far as I'm concerned, but something along the complicated implementation seems to corrupt the process.

As far as I know, Android phones just identify as USB drives when set to Data Transfer and can easily be accessible as such on Windows and Linux. Only Apple fails to accept it and actively works against a good user experience unless all your devices come from Apple.

I use a Macbook for work and my best approach is a fast Samsung USB Stick with 64GB. It works with both GOS and MacOS, just doubles the effort and time to copy files but saves me the stress of doing things "the Apple way". (Sorry for the sass, I just cant stand toxic gate keeping like that).

other8026 I like to do things locally where possible (more secure, hence my use of Phone manager app over AFT). I used the USB method in the end. It adds an extra step, but it works.

Now I use the Local Send app.

perhaps KDEConnect might work out for you. there is a MacOS version for it. https://kdeconnect.kde.org/download.html

perhaps its worth a try. I use it all the time to copy files to my PC and from my PC to/from my phone :-)

Thanks N1b, LocalSend solves my issue, is local and very fast.

Shame it only works on devices connected to the same network, as you can't use it out and about to share with friends.

you can, just create a local wifi hotspot with your phone and let your friends join it :-)

I couldn't get it to direct transfer either to my M2 Mac either. At first I would move them to a Linux and then the mac but then I set up syncthing for my passwords and that works pretty well for passing files around

I used localsend for this.
I never got Macos to transfer files to android.
