4G and 5G are cellular technologies provided by cellular carriers to customers. At present the ways to identify which customer account a phone represents are SIM cards or eSIMs, so you will need to get one or the other from some carrier. This is unrelated to which OS you run on the phone.

RMghed There's nothing inherently unsafe about using a SIM card. It is also important to note that a SIM card is not needed to connect to cellular towers, and that a device can still connect to them without one being used.

This is how you can, for example, call emergency services without a SIM being required.

If you don't want to connect to cell towers, airplane mode is what you want to use, not just removing the SIM from the device.
