Here's some apps I've used for years, and some I just found in the past few days I've own a Pixel Fold.

Obtainium - Download open source apps directly from Github and similar platforms. About 80% of my apps have a Github, so this really works well. Although there is a bit of a learning curve figuring out what Github page to add (normally the releases).
Notesnook - End to end encrypted notes.
Standard Notes - End to end encrypted, similar to Notesnook.
Openboard - Open source keyboard
Firefox - Because no addons in a browser is lol. How do people live without Dark Reader?
Total Launcher - Just found this and it is obscene how much customization is possible. Different configurations for every screen and orientation. Not open source, but no trackers or ads.
Smart Task Launcher - Creates bars on the edges of the screen from which you can summon a one-page app drawer with a gesture. You can also add shortcuts, widgets, and perform other functions.
Spotube - An open source spotify client with no ads. And it's apparently as good as Spotify Premium. I've only been using it for a week to listen to exactly one band, so...
Aves - A gallery that is somewhat nicer than other galleries.
Hail - This will freeze/unfreeze apps or groups of apps (eg. Play Services, Playstore) from a single shortcut. Probably a huge security risk given that you have to make it a device owner with ADB. Not even sure if that setting will persist through reboot. Caveat emptor.

Proton mail - Also Proton Calendar, but I haven't been able to find it on Github.
CX File Explorer - The best file explorer by far, especially if you edit text files over a network.
Instander - Ad free Instagram, with many other features as well. NOT open source. This is literally just a link to some dude's website, so don't download it. Also, it might get you banned on Instagram. (This version is extremely outdated, but it works. And a full rewrite is in progress.)
MIUI Dynamic Nebula Wallpapers - My mind was blown when I saw this on my MI9 a few years ago. After searching a while I found this video with directions to install the videos as a live background. I did not follow those directions for whatever reason, but I did grab the backgrounds from the link on the YT video, then I found some random utility to make them the background. I don't remember where I found it.

ellsworth you claim to gain security by using obtainium but I am sure that like everyone else you do not check the certificate signatures for each application that you add. you should really use the play store sandbox if your threat model is high.

[deleted] fair point. I assume unlike everyone else you personally inspect and dig through the source of each and every open source app you use and can properly understand how it operates before compiling it yourself as well?

N3rdTek No, absolutely not, but checking application signatures is a basic requirement. Otherwise, you need to use play store, which is the easiest way, since it's available directly from the GrapheneOS application repository, making things much simpler.

There is an alternative app named Instaflow that I've used for the past few months. It's much more up to date.
