When using a dual sim setup: assign a SIM to specific contacts/groups

Hi all,
i am wondering if there is a setting/function/app for the following problem:
If you have 2 Sim installed and both are acitve, you have only three options:

use SIM 1
use SIM 2
choose which one to use

is anyone aware if there is the possibility to assign a SIM to a specific contact or group?
As far as i remember, you could/can do this with Samsung phones, but i dont know, if this is a Samsung feature or a seperate app.

An "onboard" function is preferred but i'd be happy with a trustworthy app as well.

I am not a moderator, thus don't have access to readership stats, but I suspect that over the course of three days at least a couple hundred serious Android users read your question. And clearly lots of people aren't shy with their opinions, so I doubt people know the answer but are keeping it secret.

So if you've already checked F-Droid and the Google Play store, it seems plausible that what you want isn't available. But maybe you could implement it!

Just wanted to let you know - maybe someone else is looking for something similar

I found a nice tool: "Multi Sim Selector" (€5 .-, Play Store) which is exactly what i needed.
You can select your default SIM or select to choose every time you dial sometingh - like the settings in the OS.
But you can also create some filters, like...use work sim for all contacts in work profile, use private sim in the private one. Use work sim when roaming, and private sim for all numbers starting with 7... And so on.

Another gem which solves a problem in an very elegant way.

Cool, I'm looking for the exact same function. I bought a SIM specifically for whatsapp and work and would like to bind it to my work contacts. I'm not sure though about a random play store app, will have to check the permissions.

DaRon this could be a solution, thanks! You're still using it and you're happy with it? i also try to use 2 numbers with 2 profiles (work/private) and wonder why it's not easier to separate them. profile a) uses simcard, profile b) uses esim? the aim is to be completely unavailable for work and not receive any notifications (mail/messengers/sms/etc.)

graphst Yes, absolutely happy with it. This is how i use it.
My setup: private and work is seperated via private / Work profile --> configured with shelter (eg. private profile can search in work contacts app)
private part: contacts synced with Dav5x (own webserver with a Nextcloud instance running) into the default contacts app
work profile: contacts synced via Outlook into the default contacts app in the work profile.

I have 2 eSIM installed: one with my private number (P SIM), one with the work number (W SIM)

I have 15 rules enabled in "Multi SIM Selector"
1) contacts in the work profile contacts app are using "W SIM"
2) contacts in the private profile contacts app are using "P SIM"
3) manual dialed numbers starting with "+" --> ask which SIM to use
4) manual dialed numbers starting with "0" --> ask which SIM to use
5) manual dialed numbers starting with "00" --> ask which SIM to use
--> 4, 5, and 6: this is used for any number i dial manually which is not available in either contact app -> i want to choose which SIM will be used
6) to 14): manual dialed numbers starting with "1", "2", "3", etc. are using "W SIM"
--> in the company we can reach each other via VPN number, which is a 4 digit phone number. So, whenever a dialed number starts with anything but "+", "0", or "00", the "W SIM" will be used, because this is definitely a "work VPN number"
15) if any of the 2 SIM cards is roaming the "W SIM" will be used

As i said earlier already: i am super happy with this setup. did it once, never trouched it again and live happyly ever since.

wow. helps a lot, yes. do you use 2 different signal messenger instances by the way?
i try to setup via owner vs. work profile, which isn't quite convenient as far as i can see.

Signal in each profile installed and activated withe the respective number.
= Signal installed in private profile, activated with and using "P SIM"-number, Signal installed in work profile activated with and using "W SIM"-number.

only downside: (e.g.) if you want to communicate with a friend who is a co-worker at the same time this setup is not very convenient --> as it is a co-worker, the number is in the work profile contacts app. but as it is also a friend, i'd like to use my private signal instance (e.g. the work profile is deactivated after office hours and on weekend).
So, you have two options: have the same contact details in your private profile contact app as well --> then you will see the very same entry two times when you are searching for this contact.
or add this contact manually to your signal chat list "new meassage - type number manually"... (this is what i do. its a one time task only and still the contact apps (on either side) are clean and seperated)

When I did the Shelter Trick to get two instances of Signal on the one phone, one for each number (before I started to use Molly to do this), I found that I also had to have two instances of ProtonVPN running, one for each profile, as well, otherwise one of the profiles would leak the real IP address. It sucked data something shocking.

My way to deal with the two types of numbers is to assign an asterisk to the Name Suffix in Contacts on those that I have given my Work number to. This way, as a check on compartmentalisation, when I use Molly for my work Signal number, only asterisk-ed names should show up there; similarly, no asterisk-ed names should show up in my Personal Signal (a double-check). Within the phone app, the asterisk tells me to choose the Work number for dialling, etc.

I personally used this app to assign specific contacts for work to my esim in slot two. Other contacts were assigned to my psim. This allowed me to call contacts without stopping to consider or check my sim prior to the outgoing call. Whenever I called a person I would call them from the correct number.

The app UI is a bit dated but it works and works well.

@DaRon how did you manage to purchase the app... it's only possible via google play store (just used aurora yet). thanks, it starts working now with work-private profile... last task: sim management :)
