default gos keyboard not working with moonlight android app

I am on a pixel 5a on UP1A.231005.007.2023101100.

I am encountering a bug with moonlight streaming app. when I try to use the android gos keyboard to type into the moonlight app to my host PC it doesn't work.

it is almost as if the taps were passing through the keyboard.

I have tried some alternate keyboards, ie florisboard, and they work so I think it is a grapheneos/gos keyboard problem.
