Syncronized DardDAV Contacts not shown in Simple Calendar after last OS update

Since today I'm experiencing issues with CardDAV contact syncing. Since yesterday GOS updated to build 2023100900 and DAVx5 updated tov4.3.8 so I suspect that my issues are caused by one of those updates or a combination.

The issues that I experience are:

DardDAV contacts no longer show up in 'Simple Contacts' though they still show up in the default 'Phone' app
The synchronization seems to only work one way now. Contacts added/deleted on the server syncs to the 'Phone' but contacts added/deleted in the 'Phone' app doesn't sync back to the server
My CadrDAV address book doesn't show up in the Address book list of neither 'Simple Contacts' or 'Phone'

I've checked every setting I can think off but with no success.

Are anyone experiencing similar issue(s) and/or does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this?

Just tested syncing between GOS Contacts and NextCloud server via DAVx5. No issues at all.

Thanks for testing and for the heads up regarding the open Simple Contacts issue.

I also tested some more and #2 and #3 wasn't issues after all. Just me getting confused.

So to summarize:
1) Syncing between GOS Contacts and NextCloud server via DAVx5 works (both ways), but...
2) Contacts doesn't show up in the 'Simple Contacts' app

I don't use Simple Contacts, but I just tried it out to see if I have the same problem (I also sync with Nextcloud using Davx5). No issues for me here. I created new contacts, updated them, and deleted them on both my phone and on Nextcloud, everything synced as expected.

Have you odd errors thrown by DAVx5? Maybe make sure the app is allowed to post notifications in Settings > Apps > All apps > DAVx5 > Notifications, then enable all. Try syncing again and maybe you'll get an error message? I had a sync issue not long ago where DAVx5 didn't like a field or something that I was using with a contact.

other8026 Interesting that you are able to see your synced contacts in Simple Calendar. are you on the newest version of GOS (android 14)?

As I wrote in the post right above yours, syncing via DAVx5 works both ways - no errors. New contacts show up correctly in the default GOS contacts app. What doesn't work is that I simply can't see synced address books (neither DAVx5 or EteSync) in the newest version of Simple Contacts after GOS was updated to android 14. Okay, so then it's not a syncing error.

Yes, I installed Simple Contacts version 6.22.7 yesterday after updating to Android 14. Everything worked as expected. I just tried Simple Calendar and I could search synced contacts when creating an event. Have you tried reinstalling them? Maybe if that doesn't work you could even try reinstalling everything? (Nextcloud, DAVx5, Contacts, and Calendar?)

other8026 Okay, did you have Google Play Services on the profile where you tested this?

I've reinstalled Simple Contacts and Simple Dialer but no dice. I'll give the Simple Apps developers a bit of time before I'll try to uninstall Nextcloud and DAVx5 as several people have reported this issue by now and I feel fairly certain that it's a bug in the Simple apps.

Actually, the stock Contacts and Dialer app are quite okay too, the only function I really miss is the Contact Groups feature.

Yes, but I don't see how that would affect contacts showing up in the apps.

I agree that they'll likely figure something out. Deleting everything and starting from scratch might not resolve the underlying issue, so it could just happen again, which would end up being a huge waste of time.
