Hey, I've been using GrapheneOS for roughly a year now and I've enjoyed it, one thing I wished it had was the ability to disable automatic system updates since I'd prefer to apply updates at my convenience, I've set it to only download updates on unmetered connections but that still wasn't quite what I wanted, but it wasn't really a big deal, at least until now.
My phone is currently on build number 2023100300, and just about an hour ago my phone downloaded and applied the latest update. I can see that the latest release on the stable channel is release 2023100900, I have not yet rebooted my phone so I have the update notification telling me to reboot to apply the update, but before doing that I did some due diligence and skimmed the forum and release notes for mentions of Android 14, it seems like if I go ahead and reboot I will then be running GrapheneOS based on Android 14.
I do have a game I play on the daily that released a notice regarding Android 14 about 3 months ago, warning that it may not work on Android 14 but they will release a client update in the future addressing this, to please refrain from updating until then and use your own discretion when updating, etc. I have not been able to find any new notices addressing this despite there having been multiple client updates since then.
Well the update is already installed and ready to be applied once I reboot, and AFAIK I cannot just roll back to an older version, so if I do reboot there's no guarantee it will work anymore, am I out of luck here? The only course of action I see here if I want to guarantee it to work is to not reboot my phone at all until the devs address it.
Had I known this would be an issue I would have looked into disabling auto system updates by disabling the system updater app or revoking network access from it, I just figured out I can do that, but it's a bit too late for that now.
