A year ago I started using Graphene, and made myself a silly little system of different profiles I distributed all of my apps across. I did it with a vague aim for maximizing privacy, without really understanding the implications. Now, a year later, I'm thinking that I may have gone way too overboard, and might be going through much hassle for very little (or possibly no) benefit.
My basic premise was that if I isolate apps into different profiles as much a possible, this will minimize the possibility of any cross-app tracking. But I'm not very sure if this really matters
One example of such app is Facebook Messenger. As much as I would love to ditch it, I unfortunately need access to this app. I know it tries to track everything it can, and probably tries to fingerprint and cross-track me on websites with Facebook integrations.
What are the privacy implications of installing Facebook Messenger in the following ways?
- Onto my main profile, which does not have Google play services?
- Onto another profile, shared with other apps, which has sandboxed Google play services?
- Onto another profile, shared with other apps, which runs microg?
- Isolating it inside a separate profile without Google play services?
- Isolating it inside a separate profile with sandboxed Google play services?
- Isolating it inside a separate profile with microg?
And is it the same with apps by Google itself? Do they play differently with play services than other apps, privacy-wise?
Thank you very much for your insight!
