OpenSource-Ghost Doesn't it seem odd to provide initial Android 14 release to Pixel 4a 5G owners and then end official support for it? That is what Google is, supposedly, doing...
I agree that it's an odd thing to do.
OpenSource-Ghost Given that Pixel 4a 5G uses long-term support kernel version, is it likely to get any extra support from GrapheneOS developers other than frozen level patches?
I think the sticky wicket is firmware. If there is an exploitable firmware bug (that's the way to bet!) and Google quits fixing firmware bugs (that's what they've said), then on any given afternoon without warning Pixel 4a's running Google's OS, or GrapheneOS, could become radioactive. It's arguably better for users to move off those devices before that happens.
The current official advice is "Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 4a are end-of-life and shouldn't be used anymore due to lack of most security patches for firmware and drivers". Presumably that will extend to 4a5G in under a month. The GrapheneOS team may be able to extend the life of the 4a5G a bit, but developer resources could be used on Android 14 instead. For example, people are already asking about lock-screen clock widgets or something like that, and developer time spent on that would be useful (or at least fun) for many users for many years. Meanwhile, developer time spent on backups would benefit many users for many users, arguably in a major way.
I don't speak for the GrapheneOS project! But I will be unsurprised if GrapheneOS support for the 4a5G drops off very quickly.
