Blastoidea Can someone explain, in words of one syllable, why the Pixel 8 is more secure than any of its predecessors?
I believe the hardware will support more pointer validation, which will make it harder for malware to access data and run code.
For the hardware changes to actually add protection, system software will need to be tweaked. That may or may not happen, or may be only partly done, by the time the phones ship.
Over the lifetime of the hardware I suspect it will be useful. It is unlikely to provide a life-altering security improvement, and it might take months to be fully deployed. Personally I expect it will be less important overall than Google's secure elements (and it would make sense to roll out the most-critical things first...).
Please note that I do not speak for the GrapheneOS project.
