In this thread I would like to discuss how to best setup GOS devices for children to play games. By best I mean how to best strike the balance between a functional device for playing games alone and with friends on one side and protecting the child from being profiled and manipulated on the other side.
I have set up a p6 with an owner profile which my child does not have access to and a profile for my child. In the owner profile I have installed google play services via the 'app store' of GOS. I generally (with a few exemptions) only allow games which do not include known trackers and ads. I also avoid apps/games which depend on google services. It appears to be very few apps which live up to these criteria.
I have also installed Aurora which I have been using to check for trackers. I have recently read that this method probably is highly questionable, so I would like advise on how to best avoid trackers.
When installing games, I install the app in the owner profile and 'push' it to my childs profile through the user accounts management settings.
I wonder if the above setup is as clever as I hope?
I also have a question regarding a specific issue with one game. I have installed Geometry Dash, which my child enjoys a lot. But records are not saved. The progress is deleted when the app is closed, and when it is opened again, the progress is reset to 0%.
I have not allowed access to files but I suppose it shouldn't be necessary, since I believe that such data is stored in the app folder in /android/data/com.robtopx.geometryjump
Is this a known issue with apps?
