Nearby share is now called Quick share.
I can no longer say off the top of my head whether and if so which additional authorizations I have granted - but the requests for required authorizations should pop up.
It works reliably for me (owner profile, sandboxed Google Play installed) - with two limitations that I can think of off the top of my head:
1.) Long press Quick share> Who can share with you> contacts doesn't work (because I don't save any contacts in Google).
Solution: Set "Who can share with you" temporarily to "everyone".
2.) If I set the Bluetooth timeout too short and transfer a large file (e.g. a video), the Bluetooth connection is disconnected in the middle of the transfer.
Solution: increase temporarily timer under settings> connections> connection preferences> Bluetooth> turn off Bluetooth automatically> xx min.
