trouble with physical SIM

I inadvertently toggled "use SIM" off (settings > network and internet > sim > use sim) and I can't for the life of me find a way to turn it back on.

When the SIM is inserted "Calls & SMS" is now greyed out so I can't access the screen with the toggle switch.

Is there any way to fix this?

update: I've tried the following steps, which haven't worked

1) clear SIM toolkit cache and storage

no change

2) reset network settings ( settings > system > reset options > reset wifi, mobile and bluetooth)

~~after performing this reset other SIMs inserted in the device now won't provide mobile data, before this reset other SIMs worked properly~~ other SIMs still work fine
can still see other physical SIMs
still can not see original physical SIM even if inserted

3) cleared SIM manager cache and storage

no change

Option on the very top: Use SIM (toggle on)
I successfully turned it off and then back on without issues. Perhaps something has gone wrong with the actual SIM?

I thought it may have been the SIM too, so tried the SIM in another device. It appears to be working fine on an iPhone.

It seems my edit above was premature - looks like Vanadium was simply refreshing from cache. Other physical SIMs are no longer providing data, despite having mobile data enabled. Voice calling works.

de0u They tried their SIM card in another device which would mean turning the phone off and on (which I hope they did and not by keeping their phone on while removing the SIM card) when removing and inserting said SIM card.

Fair question. Rebooted multiple times, both with SIM tray empty and the two SIMs I'm trying inserted

Also fair statement. I am aware I shouldn't be hot swapping and always ensure the device is fully powered down before changing cards.

Given this behavior I'd almost think it's a hardware issue if I hadn't had both cards working in the 6a, at least momentarily.

Ask developers for help on Matrix,
Factory-reset GrapheneOS (after backing up your data!!)
Flash back to Google's OS - if that doesn't work, pursue warranty replacement

Thanks. Sounds like its going to be a battle, but at least this lets me know what the next steps are.

everything2protect Those are just suggestions. But I think starting with the developers via Matrix is probably the right thing. They may ask you to privately submit telemetry from your device, and it's possible they might see something that would get you back in business without drastic measures. Good luck! everything2protect do you have another sim to put in your phone ?( Family member or friend ?) Maybe get it to turn on then remove ?

One of my Pixels (a 6 Pro) suddenly stopped reading sims months ago. I wrote it off as hardware failure given that sims work in my other handsets but I wonder now if I gave up on it too easily. I had considered using esim...but no thank you, Google.

Anyhoo, I had tried factory reset but perhaps reinstalling GOS from oem is worth a shot? IIRC, there are XDA threads re: Pixel sim failure. I also wrote that off as coincidence, but now this thread enters the fray and the plot thickens.

UPDATE: this issue seems to have been fixed with an update. Everything appears to be working great now.
