4g dongle

If one lives in a crowded area yet can't access public WiFi all the time is a cash paid 4g dongle with VPN n for routing better than home WiFi with VPN on router? Even better does anyone know one that the imei can be changed ? This would be connection for PC and graphene . threat level is higher than you average tor/ graphene user .

Basic255 from my understanding (and I'm a noob), you'll get the same result.

It's either: insecure network with hardened devices or secure network with non hardened devices. Both should yield the same layers (i think). Having a hardened network should blanket cover devices in the network, vs having to individually harden devices connected to unhardened networks. The only thing is by using 4G you would be hitting cell towers (I'm assuming the dongle would be used with a SIM) as opposed to a home network. So there may be some more tracking possible via the SIM because of the cellular network, which who cares I guess since it would be cash paid? If you were that concerned I would probably use it in public and disconnect it away from sensitive areas (like your house) and then use the home network once home so the dongle is not getting cell tower connection at home. Similar things are done with a SIM in the phone where you use the SIM for data away from home, miles away from home (once going home) you airplane mode the phone, and then use the WiFi at home for calls and texts (using VoIP numbers). If I remember correctly, the seen IP should be the same for all devices under one network and then your devices will have independent IP's before the router (or dongle).

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Network engineers are wizards.

Basic255 I guess it depends on your threat model .
If you get an anonymous sim and use it at home they will figure out pretty quick who owns it . there are mobile routers that I believe change imei but again they will figure out who owns it pretty quick if its use at the same location regularly . an imei only changes the device not the sim identity.
A home WiFi with a VPN will keep ISP from sniffing traffic but you have to trust the VPN.
If you provide a threat model we cab better help you pick the best choice .

Thank you for the response really appreciate it . my thing is being home . everyone says its not safe to use home WiFi so that's where I was thinking the dongle some come with tor routing etc but yea the cell triangulation is an issue . from my understanding WiFi can be triangulated too I could be wrong . o go down the rabbit hole reading into this stuff and so many mixed reviews . wish I could find a 4g router that you can change imei number on

Basic255 Nothing is perfect and yea most things are traceable, privacy and security is about creating layers. I'm not sure what the issue with using home WiFi is from what you've read, if you set it up correctly I would think it would be just as secure/unsecure as any other network setup.

My understanding is this is why people implement two deices, or alternatively airplane mode or Faraday bags when near sensitive locations. And then at sensitive locations (like your home) you use a secondary devices that is dedicated to that location or use the device you "signal killed" by using it strictly over wifi.

We can see "john" went to place A, B, C, and D, as he traveled throughout his day by using location data from cell towers to his mobile device. At place D (miles away from home), his device then disconnected (airplane mode/faraday bag) and we don't know where he went after that (home). The device is now not hitting cell towers at home due to strictlyusing wifi for connectivity on the hardened home network. calls and texts can still be used without cell tower usage because of using VOIP numbers or secure messaging apps (which can be transmitted over internet data without the use of cell towers).

versus

We can see John went to place A, B, C, D by monitoring location data via cell towers. He then went to place E, the device showed here for an extended period of time, including overnight, and in the morning began traveling again. After monitoring this data for a week, we noticed that he returns to place E, daily, and the device is idle at location again, overnight, throughout the morning. By this logic we can assume place E is his home.

This is my understanding, but im not a network engineer so meh.

You don't show how 4g router is different then home WiFi .
Is this a problem you are trying to solve or is this a hypothetical situation just for fun ?
