Web Installer: Pop_OS /Ubuntu question

First time installing GrapheneOS. Just making sure: Using web installer, I see Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as an option. If Im running Pop!OS which is based on Ubuntu, will it work properly?
Just got a new Pixel 7 and I didnt wanna start the entire process by assuming Pop!OS was supported. Thanks everyone.

KS1 I'd also say Pop!OS shouldn't be a problem. Make sure to have the fastboot drivers and follow the guide exactly (such as using the right browser and avoiding Flatpak). You could also use Android and MacOS, Windows is not your only alternative. The good news: The web installer makes it very nice and easy and usually it's hard to break your device (most of the people that I have seen having problems with the installation were able to fix it, so don't hesitate to research and ask around). Plus when you've done it successfully once, it will be easy to repeat.

Worked perfectly for me on Pop_OS. But I did install official Chrome .deb for the purpose only of using the web installer, like mentioned by GrapheneOS.

I would recommend using another android device or windows personally. I got halfway through mine with linux and had to switch. But PopOS should be supported to the best of my knowledge

Ok, that makes sense. Im gonna try Windows 10 first. I figured PopOS would work, but might have a hiccup.

KS1 i am going to disagree with the other poster and say that pop should work absolutely fine. i have no clue where they got the idea that windows is a better choice.

make sure you are using a chrome based browser, but otherwise you should have no issue. i used another ubuntu-based distro and had little to no issues.

On Ubuntu, all my browsers are in snaps which interfere with the webUSB that the GrapheneOS web installer uses. However Microsoft Edge comes as a .deb package. I installed that and GrapheneOS installed fine with it.

I don’t know PopOS, but if it’s using snaps or Flatpaks then maybe try Edge?

I only "went Linux" a few months ago, so I didn't want to run into problems. I wasnt sure how literal "web installer for Ubuntu" was.

As an example this video describes GrapheneOS web install via Vanadium on another GrapheneOS device. I haven't tried myself for the lack of having another Pixel but I don't see why this method wouldn't work for installation from any other stock android via Chrome or Brave.

Exact opposite for me – still confused by Windoze 10 and 11 coming from XP and Vista.
Why that vast array of linked invasive confusing clutter?
New laptop or old? – wipe Windoze completely using Linux MX or ZorinOS then adopt smug mode :) and relax. Plug in your Pixel 3 to 8 good to go – Simples :)

FYI I created a shell script for Ubuntu and Fedora so other people would not have to type all those tedius CLI instructions. Scripting is more reliable than the complex WebUSB. If something goes wrong when scripting it is easier to find where the failure occured.

Andy Compatibility issues can drive me crazy. If you keep what you want to do simple on linux then it works great, better than windows
