12L taskbar bug; unusable if not using stock launcher. Possible upstream?

I can file a bugtracker on git if desired but wanted to ensure this is even a problem or user generated.

For Pixel devices if you set your minimum width in developer options to 600 or higher, you unlock access to the taskbar. Ignoring how funky it is to use even after fiddling with text size; it's fully functional and a great multitask tool.

Recently however, if you change the default launcher to anything else it's impossible to interact with the taskbar. It will pull up then as soon as you let go it hides itself.

Once you go back to default stock launcher and try to perform same steps now suddenly it functions as intended. Anybody else experience or is able to confirm if this is a known bug?

FWIW it's happening on my fold, both in graphene os and fully stock. I've read that it starts happening when the default launcher gets killed and you can use a tasker profile to work around it. It's frustrating as without it multitasking is pretty bad but the default launchers don't handle the multiple screens really well. I've yet to try it with 3 button navigation but that makes the task bar not hide. If anyone has a good solution for having the floating/transient taskbar but also have distinct front screen and internal screen layouts please share

It does basically the same thing with 3 button, eventually the icon row just disappears
